I don’t even know where to begin with this post. You’ve seen these two floating around my work before. They were my first guinea pigs back when I decided I’d give this photography thing a go and now I’ve seen them through multiple family sessions, a pregnancy reveal, a gender reveal, maternity sessions, and now this. Amanda told me she was pregnant very early (I joked with her that she must have texted me before her husband knew 🙂 ). Anyway, we decided long ago we were going to try to make this happen, and by this, I mean photographing the birth of her second child. We didn’t know exactly how it would work seeing that I live 2.5 hours away from where she would deliver. She also had a very premature delivery with her first son, so knowing that I could likely be “on-call” for quite a long time, we just weren’t sure.

I woke up to a few texts from Amanda that she was having some pretty painful contractions and that she’d let me know if she was going in. I was on alert, but she was still 5 weeks out, so at this point I had no idea how my day would unfold. A few texts messages later they were admitting her and she was already 5 cm dilated! At this point I was pretty sure there was no way I’d make it, considering she walked into the hospital with her first son at 9cm! I told her to constantly keep me updated as I made my way down to Winona. I gave her updates on where I was along the way and I arrived at the hospital somewhere around 12:30.

Miles Nelson arrived about 2 short hours later 🙂 I’ll let the images do the rest of the storytelling.

Congratulations Amanda and Doug!
